Climbing Kluchevskoy volcano

Kluchevskoy volcano is the highest peak of Kamchatka and the highest active volcano of Eurasia. It has a perfect classical  cone. The absolute height of the volcano is about 4.750 m. The slope, which is cut by barrancos and grooves, is up to 35° steep. The summit crater 700 m in diameter is regularly active and its shape is changing during eruption process and in quiescent periods.
Climbing Kluchevskoy volcano is always held in winter time. According to physiological state of a man’s organism on elevation and expenditure of power it can be compared to ascent of Pamirs and Tchein-Shans peaks of 6.000 and 7.000 m. (peak Lenin, peak Khan-Tengri).

 

8 DAYS ITINERARY

Day 1
  Drive about 12 hours to the Central Kamchatka as far as Kozyrevsk settlement. A picnic on the way. Staying the night at the tent camp in Kozyrevsk.
Day 2  Breakfast. 30 minute helicopter flight to the pass between the volcanoes of Kluchevskoy and Kamen at height of 3.200 m. Setting up the base camp, accommodation in tents. Lunch. Overnight.
Day 3  Breakfast. Acclimatization on elevation, climb up the slopes of Kamen volcano. Return to the base camp. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 4  Breakfast. Climbing Kluchevskoy volcano. Going down to the base camp. Staying night in tents.
Day 5  Reserve day in case of bad weather.
Day 6  Flight back to Kosyrevsk settlement. Accommodation in tents.
Day 7  Drive to the settlement of Esso – the national center of Kamchatla’s native population of the Evens (about 2 hours). Accommodation is tents or a little private hotel. Some excursions. Visiting the Local Museum. Bathing in an open pool with thermal water.
Day 8  Breakfast. Driving back to Petropavlovsk with stop for lunch. Accommodation in the hotel.

 

 

This route is weather dependent. In case of bad weather some changes my be planned for the 11th and 12th days.
